Rather than relying on the turnout’s switch-blades to act as a switch, it is better to bypass the self-isolation feature of sectional track and insulated frog turnouts. This ensures an uninterrupted power supply to the switch-blades and the tracks beyond the frog. If the isolation of locomotives is still required, this can be achieved with insulated rail joiners and electrical switches, either one switch per track, or a SPDT (single pole double throw) switch to alternate between the tracks in tandem with switching the turnout. The best solution is to incorporate the switching function with a turnout motor using an accessory switch.
